YORKVILLE — The Kendall County Food Pantry has always subsisted on donations and the work of volunteers.
But with donations down and the need for food up, the pantry will hold its first fundraiser this spring.
The event will be organized by a national organization, Project Stand By Me. It is scheduled for 5 p.m. May 7 at Whitetail Ridge Country Club on Route 126 south of Yorkville. The event will include a dinner and live and silent auctions. Tickets will cost $75.
Maria Spaeth, pantry director, said the night also will include a “twist” related to the pantry’s mission to provide short-term help with food for needy individuals and children.
“It’s a surprise,” Spaeth said, when asked what the twist might be. “There has to be a surprise.”
Project Stand By Me is a national organization based on the ideal of helping people help themselves. Spaeth said that’s in keeping with the mission of the food pantry.
“The goal of any food pantry is a short-term fix for a long-term problem,” she said. “We’re hoping to gather funds to allow people to get the missing pieces to become more sustainable.”
